Writing
Early Writing
Our early writing curriculum is designed to engineer success. It has an emphasis on the transcriptional skills as fluency in spelling and handwriting frees up the working memory to focus on the compositional aspects of writing.
'Talk Through Stories' is used as the basis for planning lots of interesting opportunities for oral compsition.
Writing is carefully planned so that children use only the knowledge of phoneme-grapheme correspondences they have already been taught. This is largely achieved through dictation activities.
Writing in KS1 and KS2
At Kimberworth we use a 'Purpose for Writing' approach.
The 4 main purposes being taught across KS1 and 2 are
Key Stage 1 | Lower Key Stage 2 | Upper Key Stage 2 |
|
|
|
Year groups teach one purpose for writing each half term creating different outcomes. This approach allows children to practise and embed the skills, grammar and punctuation they have been taught in different contexts.
