Kimberworth Community Primary School is a Number Sense school!
We use the Number Sense Number Facts Fluency Programme because it teaches a defined set of addition and subtraction facts and a defined set of calculation strategies using a systematic and structured approach.
The core facts are taught alongside 12 calculation strategies. Learning and applying these strategies gives children a deep understanding of number and number relationships.
Any children who need to continue to develop their fluency in number facts will continue to have daily support sessions.
We aim for all children to recall multiplication facts by the end of Year 4 and teach these systematically using the Number Sense times table fluency programme. Children practise these regularly at school and home using a range of resources.
All children also access a daily maths lesson. Staff use White Rose Maths Schemes of Learning to support their planning. These promote a focus on deepening children’s understanding of each maths topic through the concrete -pictoral -abstract approach. Lessons include varied fluency, mathematical talk, reasoning and problem solving.
