Geography
Geography at Kimberworth CPS
At Kimberworth, we aim for our geography curriculum to develop the children's curiosity about the world around them and its people and places.
We have a unique locality which we explore to develop an understanding of the world around us and how we fit in. The children will develop knowledge about place, scale, interconnectivity, diversity and the environment. They will have the opportunity to learn from first hand experiences and develop fieldwork experience and skills. We allow for the children to enquire, explore and draw conclusions based on the skills and knowledge that they have been taught.
Through our curriculum, the children are exposed to a wide range of different perspectives to ensure they have a broad and balanced view of the world around them to become responsible citizens locally, nationally and globally.
Across the curriculum we have a focus on explicitly teaching vocabulary and in Geography units we carefully plan for this to extend our children's geographical vocabulary.
The curriculum is designed to develop substantive and disciplinary knowledge that is progressive, as well as transferable, throughout the children's time at Kimberworth, to their further education and beyond.
