In Science. Class 1 have learnt about deciduous and evergreen trees. They have been scientists and investigated the leaves of trees on our school field to identify the type of tree it belongs to.
Class 1 had a wonderful day at Sandall Beat Wood. They went on a minibeast hunt and investigated trees.They also created their own stick men and minibeast homes in groups.
Class 1 have enjoyed their Science lessons. They have learnt about the different parts of a flowering plant. They have created their own nature sketches, inspired by the work of William Morris. They have also planted their own sunflower seeds, and have placed the Sunflowers in different areas in the classroom to investigate which ones grow the tallest.
Class 1 in Design Technology have made fruit salads! They used their knowledge of the bridge cut to chop the fruit and presented them on either a skewer, in a cup or in a bowl. The children were very sensible and thoroughly enjoyed making, and eating, their fruit salads! They have also been for a walk to learn how to locate features in the environment and plot them onto a map. They have learnt that some of these features are human (being made by humans) and others are physical (which are natural).
In geography Class 1 have been learning about how our playground is similar and different to other playgrounds around the world.
Class 1 have been learning how to program Bee-Bots forwards and backwards, including programming them to move to others on our table!
The animal visitors we had in Year 1 today included a corn snake, rabbit, tortoise, millipede and mice alongside skinny pigs and guinea pigs! The children were very brave and were so excited to meet and feed the animals too!
